Yesterday students heard from Kristen, who shared her powerful story of overcoming trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges. After struggling with substance use and self-harm, she sought help, turned her life around, and now advocates for mental health and recovery. Kristen's journey highlights the importance of seeking support and breaking the stigma around mental health and addiction.

If you've been around LCWM for any amount of time, you most definitely know Tyler! Tyler greeted everyone with a cheerful grin, animated hello, and usually by their first name. He loves sugar and snacks, the color green, Eye of the Tiger, and everyone knows it! Today, Tyler received his official diploma and is on to the next phase of bringing joy to people around him outside of the school walls. He's been an integral part of LCWM for so many years and we will miss him but are excited to see what the future holds! This isn't the traditional graduation or regular "senior" post, but for all the smiles and energy Tyler has brought to LCWM, he deserves his own "graduation" post. Congratulations, Tyler!

Due to the weather, LCWM schools will be two hours late today, December 19, 2024. No AM preschool. The Outdoor Education and 6th grade ski trip is also postponed.

Congratulations to these three teams for advancing to the regional Junior High Knowledge Bowl competition! The event took place yesterday at South Central College in North Mankato, where Team Pink (Phena, Cora, Jessa, Amelia, Gretta, and Abby) excelled, securing 6th place out of 31 teams! Well done to all participants for their hard work and dedication!

Congratulations to these students who were the finalists in the annual Lions Club Peace poster contest! Adeline (center) was chosen as the top finalist this year so her poster has been sent to regions for further judging in the competition!

This week for hope week, we had dress up days and small activities to continue to bring awareness. Monday, we had pajama day with the theme of being comfortable in your own skin. Tuesday was twin day, with the meaning of being connected to someone. We also had an activity of seeking out or finding the elf. Seeking out or finding the elf symbolizes seeking out help when you are struggling. Wednesday was jersey day and teaming up against suicide. Students enjoyed the root beer floats as we promoted “hope floats” and even when things seem difficult, there is always hope. Today’s theme is construction - building each other up and sticking together. We gathered today as we stick our amazing staff members to the wall. Tomorrow students should wear red or black, which are the primary colors for the hope squad.

Please consider donating blood on Friday, December 27th!

During the Courage Retreat that was held on Tuesday, 7th grade students from LCWM, St. James and Truman were inspired and empowered to act with courage and make positive choices. Through interactive activities, courageous discussions, and engaging stories, students learned to identify peer pressures, overcome fears, and stand up for their beliefs. There were also brave students from LCWM who shared what their act of courage will be in front of the entire group of 200 students.

Students in Ms. Missling's class were able to experience a bit of real life this morning thanks to the SouthPoint Federal Credit Union's Budget City simulation. Students visited a variety of vendors selling homes, childcare, vehicles, food, clothes and "fun stuff". After purchasing their items, they had to visit with the credit union to finalize their budgets and see how much money was left at the end of the month. It was a great learning experience for everyone! Also, a special thanks to the local volunteers who came to sell items including LCWM alumni, Sydney!

Congratulations to Team Blue on their 4th place finish out of 38 teams at knowledge bowl today!

If you're at the high school for conferences tonight or Thursday, look through the lost and found items!

Today, we honor and thank our veterans for their incredible service and sacrifice. In recognition of Veterans Day, our secondary students had the privilege of hearing inspiring words from President Abraham Lincoln’s powerful address, reminding us of the dedication of those who serve our country. Our elementary students also contributed to the day’s meaning by putting on a heartfelt and wonderful program. Through their songs and performances, they reminded us all of the deep gratitude we owe to our veterans for the freedoms we enjoy every day. Thank you, veterans, for your courage and commitment!

Saturday, November 9, 2024, was a memorable day for making music at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. Nine talented students had the honor of participating in two different prestigious Honor Bands.
Five students were selected for the St. Olaf Festival of Bands Honor Band at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. The students arrived on campus at 8 a.m., ready to immerse themselves in a day of intensive music-making. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Henry Dorn, the St. Olaf Band Conductor, and guest conductor Dr. Travis J. Cross from UCLA, the students rehearsed diligently from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their hard work culminated in a concert at 4 p.m. that showcased their dedication and musical growth.
In addition, four LCWM students were selected to participate in the Bethany Lutheran College Honor Band. Under the direction of Mr. Benjamin Faugstad, the Director of Bethany Lutheran Bands, the students rehearsed throughout the day and concluded their experience with a concert at 5:30 p.m. in the Bethany Chapel.
All students were chosen for these opportunities through director nominations and are taught by Malia Jones, the LCWM Director of Bands. Their participation in these events highlights the students’ talent, commitment, and the strong music program at LCWM.
