The school board meeting opened with congratulations to LCWM senior Camden Ludeman, for being chosen as the school winner for the MSHSL Heisman Award. Camden is the Knights All District Football Player as well as a Knight's State Honor Roll Track Athlete. Grace Moeller, who was selected as the State High School Heisman Award Winner for females in Minnesota, was also congratulated. Moeller’s state win comes with a $1,000 scholarship to offset college tuition costs. To be eligible for this award, students must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.0 (B average) or better. Applicants also need to be proven leaders and role models within their school and community. Applicants must participate or have participated in grades 9, 10, or 11 in at least one of the sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Associations. (https://heismanscholarship.com/about/how-it-works/) The Board also offered congratulations to LCWM senior, Kaitlyn Kirchner, for being chosen as one of 104 students nationwide to participate in a week-long government and leadership education program through the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP)! The highly competitive program is merit-based and also awards each student with a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science. Kaitlyn was one of two students in Minnesota selected to be a delegate and will have the opportunity to hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials of the Departments of State and Defense, leaders of other federal agencies and senior members of the national media. Delegates also traditionally participate in a meeting with a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and the president of the United States.

Singing the National Anthem at the LCWM vs. Loyola basketball game Thursday was Grace Moeller. She was accompanied by her cousin Miles Flack, playing the violin. Moeller and Flack were statewide MSHSL ExCEL Award winners last year and they are LCWM’s MSHSL Triple A Award Nominees this year. Flack went on to score 10 points and grab 8 rebounds in the Knight’s 63-47 upset win.

The fog cleared to have a rainbow on the right, darkness on the left and lighting in the middle. With snow on the ground and high winds tonight, power outages are likely to happen. Parents should make plans for safety and a possible school delay or closure, if the predictions are correct. I will keep you posted tonight.
