High School student council members welcomed some of our new students at their annual new student luncheon today. The New Student Luncheon is a fun event where incoming students can meet each other and enjoy some pizza together. It’s a great way to start connecting, ask questions, and get to know eachother a bit more! Please join us in welcoming them to our community and school!
Secondary students were welcomed by our High School Student Council this morning! There were lots of smiling faces this morning as we officially begin the 2024-25 school year!
The staff says, "Let's go!!" We are ready and excited for a new year!!
Please join us in welcoming our new teachers! We are excited to have John McColley, Ashley Simmons, and Paula Nagengast join our team this school year!
We were notified by Palmer Bus Service that the bus route times are posted into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal! In the transportation tab, it should say "Effective: 9/03/2024". If yours is not updated, please send an email with your information to info@isd2071.org and we will pass it on to the bus company.
Please note, for those of you on Bus Routes 18 & 21 your times will be different than previous years due to the County Road 9 Bridge being out by the Rapidan Dam.
These times are approximate and could vary by a few minutes each way, especially to start the year so please be prepared.
Investing in Tomorrow's World | Referendum 2024
The School Board has been gathering information throughout the past year and has decided to present a referendum to our district residents in the November 2024 election. Due to the increasing needs for maintenance and upkeep of our facilities and grounds, coupled with insufficient Long Term Facility Maintenance funds, voters will be asked to consider a $6.5 million bond referendum to support these projects.
For more information, please visit: www.isd2071.org/referendum2024.
Several upcoming opportunities will be available to meet with school superintendent Mr. Brett Benson and our Board members to answer any questions you may have. Please check the page listed above for those dates and times!

Over the last two weeks, we hosted our annual Achievement and Integration S.T.E.A.M. Camp for middle school students from LCWM, Truman, Madelia, Maple River, and St. James.
Instructors from each of these districts worked with approximately 130 students, teaching them about robotics, theater, yoga, building trades, the solar system, art, yard games, and the James Webb Telescope. In addition to these classes, students had the opportunity to attend a field trip to Sioux Falls, where they visited Aerostar, the Sweetman Planetarium, and the Sioux Falls National Guard Air Force Base to watch F-16s take off.
On Friday afternoon, each class recapped their experiences in the parent program and launched rockets from the baseball field!
This summer, 34 students had the opportunity to go on an adventure to Belize! On this science-focused trip led by Mr. Satterness, they explored the biodiversity of rainforests and coral reefs while getting a taste of Central American history and culture.
