Students in Ms. Missling's class were able to experience a bit of real life this morning thanks to the SouthPoint Federal Credit Union's Budget City simulation. Students visited a variety of vendors selling homes, childcare, vehicles, food, clothes and "fun stuff". After purchasing their items, they had to visit with the credit union to finalize their budgets and see how much money was left at the end of the month. It was a great learning experience for everyone! Also, a special thanks to the local volunteers who came to sell items including LCWM alumni, Sydney!

Today, we honor and thank our veterans for their incredible service and sacrifice. In recognition of Veterans Day, our secondary students had the privilege of hearing inspiring words from President Abraham Lincoln’s powerful address, reminding us of the dedication of those who serve our country. Our elementary students also contributed to the day’s meaning by putting on a heartfelt and wonderful program. Through their songs and performances, they reminded us all of the deep gratitude we owe to our veterans for the freedoms we enjoy every day. Thank you, veterans, for your courage and commitment!

Saturday, November 9, 2024, was a memorable day for making music at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. Nine talented students had the honor of participating in two different prestigious Honor Bands. Five students were selected for the St. Olaf Festival of Bands Honor Band at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. The students arrived on campus at 8 a.m., ready to immerse themselves in a day of intensive music-making. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Henry Dorn, the St. Olaf Band Conductor, and guest conductor Dr. Travis J. Cross from UCLA, the students rehearsed diligently from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their hard work culminated in a concert at 4 p.m. that showcased their dedication and musical growth. In addition, four LCWM students were selected to participate in the Bethany Lutheran College Honor Band. Under the direction of Mr. Benjamin Faugstad, the Director of Bethany Lutheran Bands, the students rehearsed throughout the day and concluded their experience with a concert at 5:30 p.m. in the Bethany Chapel. All students were chosen for these opportunities through director nominations and are taught by Malia Jones, the LCWM Director of Bands. Their participation in these events highlights the students’ talent, commitment, and the strong music program at LCWM.

LCWM students exercised their civic duty in a mock election, gaining hands-on experience with the voting process today! Secondary students were able to go to the media center this morning or to the stage at lunchtime, initial next to their names on the "registered voter" papers, receive a ballot to cast at the ballot stations, and place their ballots in the ballot box. They also received an "I've Voted" sticker. High schools across the state are also voting and reporting the results at this website, sponsored by the Secretary of State. LCWM votes will be tallied after school and reported by tomorrow! https://lookerstudio.google.com/u/0/reporting/7d9aebc9-04c9-445e-ba8a-f3ed42863d65/page/6bJWB The fourth and fifth graders at the elementary school also voted for their favorite candidate today. They have been learning about elections, the Electoral College, and the branches of government. They will continue with the Constitution and the amendments to finish out their study of American Government.

The first of three school board/student council breakfasts was held this morning. Student council members shared updates on activities, thoughts on start times and lunch, and ideas to "spruce up" the walls in the building! It was a great conversation between student council members, the school board and Superintendent Benson.
